I was invited to go with my friend and her small kids and was surprised to hear that her husband objects to her taking her children because he feels it's disrespectful of the dead (the exhibit is made up of human specimens). From his perspective, the only way he'd consider going is if they insisted on a respectful, funeral-home type atmosphere and if he had the assurance that all of the people who are now on display had given their permission to be used in this way. Apparently the specimens were obtained in China and he figures no one bothered asking for the consent of the dying or their families.
I'm inclined to think that as the exhibit is designed for educational purposes and viewers end up marvelling at the human body, the intent is respectful and I don't have a problem with it.
