Premier Gordon Campbell announces a 15% income tax cut

Effective January 2011, BC residents will pay 15% less for income tax. Considering this is one of the heaviest taxes that we pay in BC, I think the tax cut will go a long way in relieving some of the financial burden on BC residents. More importantly, it balances out the effects of the HST and keeps our economy going strong.

I'm not a big fan of the Liberals, but they deserve credit for keeping our economy strong while the rest of the world has been struggling to stay afloat. In fact, the Fraser Institute recently named Gordon Campbell the best fiscal manager in Canada and I think you can see the evidence all around you. There are major bridges being built, roads being widened all over the lower mainland, and homes being built to accommodate the increasing population. Surrey is even getting a new critical care center which will increase capacity at their main hospital. These things wouldn't be possible unless we had good leadership from the provincial Liberals, but some people will never be happy.

Here is the live video from Campbell's provincial address last Wednesday.

Nice to get a tax break but what about the annual shortfall of money needed to run the govt? Sounds like a man desperate to avoid recall and plummeting approval ratings by offering something that will cause the total debt to soar ever higher.

Originally he claimed HST was revenue neutral - do i have that correct? Therefor it's not bringing in any extra money for the govenment.

But yet he CAN cut income taxes and improve spending on schools - DESPITE having a major defecit.

Something tells me this is the actions of someone who knows they're about to go out of power soon - and want ot line up the next government with a huge debt and rediculously low taxes, so that they end up looking like the bad guys.

Otherwise known as the "bush trick".

We threw a really big party. We all knew it was going to cost money. Nobody complained when we decided to throw it. Nobody worried about the bills. Nobody acknowledged the fact that we were going to get a bill.

We threw the party. A small minority of people came out to complain, smaller than the number of people coming out for the anarchy. Everybody had a great time, nobody worried about the bills.

We got the bill. It needs to be paid. Provincial governments don't print money, this means tax. A billion and a half back from the feds is too good to pass up. Hence, the HST is justified.

The fact that they've lied and wasted so much money being greedy is not justified.

Howdy, Stranger!
